Garage Radio Privacy Policy
How Do We Use Your Information?

The following policy describes Garage Radio's usage and intentions regarding personal information submitted by our members and visitors. It is not our goal to sell, trade or otherwise distribute any personal information without express permission by its owner.

Garage Radio's Privacy Policy

Garage Radio believes in the responsible use of personal information. We understand that without the trust and respect of the artists and visitors that make up our community we'd have nothing. Garage Radio will honor your right to know who gets your information and your right to refuse permission to release it.

Garage Radio is the sole owner of the information we obtain on this site, and we collect information from our users at several levels on the Garage Radio web site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.

Your Personal Information at Garage Radio

Garage Radio asks for personal information only when it's absolutely necessary. We require certain pieces of information so we can provide you support when we feel it is necessary. We need the names of submitting musicians for whom we may receive inquiries by other publications or A&R scouts. Similarly, we only require a mailing address when you purchase advance services provided by Garage Radio, or to mail awards or prizes you may have won. At any point you can view and edit this personal information under the “Your Account" section of Garage Radio. We may use this information for research to improve the site and services we offer you, and unless you give us express permission to do so we will not to pass on any of these personal details to third parties.

Here's the information that we require for basic registration at Garage Radio:

Username: Your username is collected and made public on the site. This name is made public in news you post so other members of the Garage Radio community can see more about who wrote the article. This information is also used to log you into other community services, such as forums and chat.

The following information is collected at registration but will never be made public on the site:

Email address: We use your email address to verify your initial sign-up, inform you of problems that may arise with your account and to send the newsletter if you choose to receive it. It is only made public if you choose the option to do so.

Password: This is a way to insure there is no unauthorized access to your account. Do not reveal your password to anyone. Your password can be changed at any time from within your account information screen. After registration you have the option of providing more information for your public profile, but are under no obligation to do so. If you continue on to register your band with Garage Radio, you will be required to provide us with band name, band’s web site URL and a graphic if you have one available, along with the first and last names of all band members. These names will be made public on your band's profile page. In addition you will need to provide a "biography" of your band.

About Cookies

Be aware that Garage Radio uses "cookies." Cookies are small packets of information we place on your hard drive for tracking purposes - basically a code number that we use to recognize you when you come back to the site. Only the information you volunteer, however, or the choices you make while visiting the site, can be stored in a cookie. A cookie cannot determine your email address, for example, unless you type it in. We store no personally identifiable information with your cookie. Allowing a Web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it.

Garage Radio uses timed cookies that store an encrypted session id code. This means we are able to "recognize" you when you surf the site for a period of time. If you have not visited the site in a while you will have to log in to access member services. If your browser is set to reject cookies, you will not be able to log in to the site and hold an account. This means you will not be able to use chat, discussion boards or access you account information. You will, however, be able to browse most of the site freely and listen to the streams.

Log Files

We log IP addresses to track what users have made what page requests, what browser that person was using, what their cookie was, and at what time the request was made as well as tracking abuse. No personal information is stored in our log file.

Discussion & Chat Rooms

As a service to our users, Garage Radio offers Discussion Board and chat rooms. Only your screen name will be made available to other users of these services unless you provide other information in your account that is publicly visible. Remember that any comments you contribute will become public immediately - credited to your screen name. Double-check that you have typed what you really want to say before submitting them.

Except for administrative emails, like important changes to Garage Radio, we only send emails to users who ask for them. Currently, Garage Radio issues four types of email communication: confirmation email when a link you submitted has been posted, an opt-in newsletter, notification of awards, and problems with your account, music or our ability to retrieve your music.

We will share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person. Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on Garage Radio

This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that Garage Radio is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our Homepage so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner.
