Thomas Garner - Staff Photographer
Salt Lake City, UT

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and have lived here my entire life. Music has always been an important part of my life, but always as a listener, not the performer. During my formative years I discovered rock 'n' roll and heavy metal. I made it a point to buy all the new records and tapes, and attend as many concerts as possible. I purchased music magazines and marveled at the pictures of the artists performing their music. I always thought it would be too cool to take pictures at concerts, but had no idea how to get involved.

A few years ago a friend of mine asked to borrow my camera because his friend was playing in a band and needed pictures. Rather than lend it out I volunteered to do it myself. The pictures were horrible but the band liked them and invited me back to shoot again. A short time later I bought a new camera and began to focus my efforts on getting the signature shot. By late 2003 I was actively involved in the local metal/hard rock scene, shooting nearly every weekend, endeavoring to make my name and have my work noticed.

May of 2005 brought the call from John Foxworthy and Garage Radio. When John asked if I'd be interested in shooting Ozzfest, I knew my efforts were paying off.

When I'm not photographing a band's performance I enjoy landscape and wildlife photography while camping, fishing, and hiking. My family and I also enjoy the odd hobby of keeping arachnids (tarantulas and scorpions).
I make my living as a printing press operator.
