News: Aberdeen City: Gearing Up For Tour With Electric Six
Posted on Wednesday, August 23 @ 09:15:34 MDT by roadrash
ShowsChurning up like the cold North Sea, Aberdeen City is making waves with their new release, The Freezing Atlantic. They’ve been tagged by both SPIN and MTV as up-and-comers to watch and hear and are backing those claims up with an 8-week cross-country tour with The Electric Six and The Blue Van.

Even before The Freezing Atlantic saw national distribution, Aberdeen City’s distinctive sound gained them fans throughout the notoriously picky Boston music scene. The album’s first single (and video), "God is Going to Get Sick of Me," won a Boston Music Award before ever being committed to an album. Produced by Nic Hard (Jesse Malin, The Church, The Bravery), the original version of The Freezing Atlantic then went on to be voted "Best Local Album" by Boston Phoenix readers.

Sensing that the album was need to get it into even more people's hands, Dovecote/Red Ink decided to re-release the record nationally and the rest is a history in the making. Uber-producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones, Morrissey) stepped into the producer's seat to re-record two songs with the band ("Another Seven Years" and "God is Going to Get Sick of Me"). The result is a haunting and driving aural landscape and a perfect embodiment of the post-punk sound to which the Brits have been laying claim. Not for much longer!

The band will be on the road from mid-September through early November and will hit the road again in the New Year. If you’d like to go to one of the shows. need a CD or more info, you know where we’re at!

"Aberdeen City are a classic college-radio success story."
- MTV's "You Hear It First"

"Given the icy conditions surrounding the album's recording, it's no wonder The Freezing Atlantic broods in its gorgeously intense guitar, dramatic melodies, and heavy rhythms."
- Spin.com's "Artist of the Day for August 11, 2006"

"The band showed it has the stuff to be the next big thing from Boston, delivering a visceral and thrilling set of unhinged post-punk that balanced large swaths of guitar dissonance with passionate choruses and dynamic song structures."
- Boston Herald

"Displaying the poise of veteran rockers, the band bashed out songs that balanced effusive pop melodies with dramatic rock 'n' roll."
- Boston Globe

"If you can imagine what it would sound like if the Strokes and Interpol had a love child, well, that shuold give you some idea... There are approximately 8,434 bands doing this exact same thing in Williamsburg alone - but we're betting Aberdeen City are better than 99 percent of them."
- Alternative Press

"...The Cure was wrong: Boys do cry, and Aberdeen City’s willingness to let its vulnerability show may distinguish the band from the rest of the barrel-chested, eyeliner-smeared nouveau-emo posse."
- Magnet

"This Boston-based group sounds like they were fed a steady diet of the best indie/shoegaze/alt-this/alt-that while growing up, and now it's definitely in their systems."
- Big Takeover
