Unearth: III: In The Eyes Of The Fire

Genre: Metal
Label: Metal Blade

I've never been all that impressed with Unearth, but when I got In The Eyes Of The Fire in the mail I couldn't stop myself from listening several times ... until I burst blood vessels in both eyes! I've said it before ... this is hands down one of the hardest bands I've ever heard; however, this album displays a lot more talent than I've given them credit for in the past.

Although a lot of the songs sound alike, I still think Unearth have evolved big time on this one. I found myself drawn to the absolute speed and precision of the guitar riffs, accented perfectly by the bands rhythm section, and I couldn't help but admire how tight this band really is. On the other hand, there was an issue of creativity. Without looking at the CD cover I had a hard time separating one song from another and all that vicious talent was lost to a lack of invention.

As a band, Unearth has promise to kick some serious ass. They have the natural capacity for putting together bad-ass compositions driven by some wicked talent, but on the whole In The Eyes Of The Fire doesn't show off Unearth's true potential ... maybe next time guys!
